World Environment Day is celebrated every year on 5 June. Held annually since 1974, it is the United Nations’ flagship day for promoting global awareness and action for the environment. This year’s theme is focused on biodiversity and is titled “Time for Nature”.
This theme resonates with ICBA’s vision. We believe that nature has solutions to many of the current problems. The ICBA Youth Engagement Society (ICBA YES) believes that youth are the main drivers of a green and sustainable future.
This year we would like to celebrate World Environment Day with a virtual photography campaign to show our love and appreciation of the UAE plant biodiversity. We invite everyone to share with us photos they have taken of any plant from the UAE that they love and their brief personal story of their connection with that plant. The photo could be from anywhere in the UAE - your own home, garden, farm, city landscape or the wild. The photo could be old or new, but it is important that you have taken it and you have a personal connection with the plant.
How to participate
All you need to do is to upload your photo along with your story to Instagram and tag it with the hashtag #uaeplantstory. The campaign will run from 5 June, World Environment Day, until 30 June. The three photos with the most likes by midnight on June 30 will be featured in our upcoming exhibition at the Emirates Soil Museum planned for November 2020.
Join the campaign and share your story!
